Terms of Service

1Purpose of the Tool

This tool (the "Service") is a browser-based utility designed to help users view, search, and organize conversation data they have exported from OpenAI's ChatGPT platform. It facilitates the transition of a user's own conversation history into a format that can be reviewed and optionally continued using Anthropic's Claude AI assistant.

The Service acts solely as a facilitation and informational tool. It does not modify, store, transmit, or claim ownership of any user data. Many users wish to migrate away from ChatGPT and toward Claude, and this tool exists to make that process easier and more transparent.

2Independent Status and Non-Affiliation

This Service is an independent, community-built project. It is:

  • Not created, maintained, endorsed, or sponsored by Anthropic, PBC or any of its subsidiaries.
  • Not created, maintained, endorsed, or sponsored by OpenAI, Inc. or any of its subsidiaries.
  • Not an official product or feature of either ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Not authorized to act on behalf of either company in any capacity.

Any references to "ChatGPT," "OpenAI," "Claude," or "Anthropic" are made purely for descriptive and identification purposes. All trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

3How the Tool Works

The Service operates as follows:

Data Export
Users independently export their conversation data from ChatGPT using OpenAI's built-in data export functionality (Settings → Data Controls → Export Data).
Local Processing
Users load the exported file (JSON or ZIP) into this tool. All parsing, indexing, and display of conversation data occurs entirely within the user's web browser. No data is uploaded to any external server, database, or third-party service by this tool.
Browsing and Search
The tool provides a searchable interface for reviewing past conversations, viewing statistics, and reading individual threads.
Continue with Claude
Users may optionally continue a selected conversation using Anthropic's Claude API. When this feature is used, conversation context is sent to Anthropic's API endpoint in accordance with Anthropic's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. This is the only circumstance in which conversation data leaves the user's browser, and it is initiated solely by the user's explicit action.
Memory Profile Generation
Users may optionally generate a summary profile of their conversation patterns. This process sends sampled, truncated excerpts to the Claude API for analysis. The resulting profile is displayed locally and is not stored by this tool.

4Privacy and Data Handling

Local-first architecture
This tool is designed with a local-first architecture. Your exported ChatGPT data is processed entirely in your browser's memory and is never transmitted to any server operated by the creators of this tool. We do not collect, store, log, or have access to your conversation data.
Third-party API usage
When you choose to use the "Continue with Claude" or "Build Memory Profile" features, data is sent to Anthropic's API. This transmission is governed by Anthropic's Terms of Service (https://www.anthropic.com/terms) and Privacy Policy (https://www.anthropic.com/privacy). We encourage you to review those policies before using these features.
No analytics or tracking
This tool does not include analytics scripts, tracking pixels, advertising SDKs, or any mechanism to monitor user behavior.

5User Responsibilities

By using this Service, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • You are the rightful owner of any data you load into this tool and have the right to export and use that data.
  • You are responsible for compliance with OpenAI's Terms of Service regarding the export and use of your ChatGPT data.
  • You are responsible for compliance with Anthropic's Terms of Service when using features that interact with the Claude API.
  • You will not use this tool for any unlawful purpose or to process data you do not have the right to access.

6No Warranty and Limitation of Liability

This Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

The creators of this tool shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. This includes but is not limited to data loss, data corruption, unauthorized access to your data, or any actions taken by third-party services (including Anthropic or OpenAI) in connection with your use of the Service.

7Intellectual Property

This tool does not claim any ownership or intellectual property rights over your conversation data. Your data remains yours. The tool's source code and design are the intellectual property of its creators, subject to any applicable open-source licenses.

"ChatGPT" and "OpenAI" are trademarks of OpenAI, Inc. "Claude" and "Anthropic" are trademarks of Anthropic, PBC. Use of these names in this tool is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply any endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation.

8Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be reflected by an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
